Speeds and Feeds
To machine, cut or drill any kind of material there is a recommended Cutting Speed. This needs to be converted to RPM (Revolutions Per Minute). There is also a recommended Depth of Cut for the optimal life of tools. This needs to be expressed in Feed Rate. With Speeds And Feeds there are Three options, 1: Drilling, 2: Milling and 3: Turning.
To calculate the Speed enter Two pieces of information. Use the tab, enter or hot keys or click with the mouse to enter the information in the desired Text Boxes. If the Cutting Speed is known enter either the Diameter or the RPM. After entering the two pieces of information use the tab, enter, short cut keys or mouse to activate the Calculate Speed Button. When enough information is entered the calculations will be done for the unknown value on the Speed calculation. The RPM will be highlighted on the Feed side of the module. Then enter a different value for the RPM if desired.
It is not necessary to solve the Speed before calculating the Feed. If a solution is needed for Drilling or Turning enter two pieces of information. For Milling enter three pieces of information. When the two or three pieces of information are entered the Feed will be calculated by using the tab, enter, short cut key, or click the mouse on the Calculate Feed button. If RPM is already solved enter one more piece of information
